And then there were eight

The eight World Cup second round matches went pretty much to form with six of the favourites from the Infostrada Sports Forecast model going through and only two of the three tightest matches on paper not won by the favourites. With eight teams left, how does the rest of the competition look?

A final between Brazil and Argentina is still the most likely final and all four quarter-finals have a reasonably clear favourite. The Netherlands are actually more of a favourite in their match in this round than they were in the second round as Costa Rica appears to be an easier opponent than their last 16 opponents Mexico.  The other three favourites though all have tougher tasks than in the last 16. Each of the other three ties has one of the Infostrada Forecast model’s top four teams in the world participating and thus each of that trio are favourites to win. However, given the odds we would expect one of the four quarter-finals to end in a surprise result. The question is which one?
